The irresolute. He rises, looks at it carefully, thinks it over and then decides to refuse it. In the photographic sequence the trout declines a real mayfly. We will never know why, but we can draw parallels. In slow flowing streams (but not only) rich in nutriment, the trout's decisions is not exclusively dictated by the surviving instinct of feeding. Personal taste, mood and past experiences, which are unique to each individual, they all come in play. From their position trout observe the moving 'belt' of the flowing stream above. The food slides over their head and they 'climb' to pick whatever strikes their fancy and appetite. Drawing an analogy with the humans world we can think of a sushi circle. While the items of food flow in front of us, we do not pick up every piece either. We instinctively apply very personal selection criteria.
