The focus of this research is on small streams.
The lack or scarcity of insects is not necessarily a symptom of human induced pollution, although there is a clear indication of a direct relationship between macrobenthos ecological diversity poorness
and anthropization. The gradation used is derived from the Trent Biotic Index.
