Fly fishing with the mountain bike

_____

The six-piece 8-foot is in the rucksack along with a box of flies, a reel and the vest. The rod must fit in the rucksack, you must avoid external tube holders that can get stuck in difficult passages. A fall off your bike can ruin your day. There is no space for boots. In necessity we get wet

There are fantastic places in the Alps to explore on a mountain bike. Small unknown streams, far from the roads, are home to more trout than one can imagine. I plan the routes on detailed maps and then use a GPS navigator to avoid finding unfeasible ways. However, surprises are always lurking, but it's part of the game. Sometimes you have to get down and push, or change course and improvise. In any case, never take unnecessary risks. In the worst case go back and it will be for next time.

Remote places can be veins of gold for passionate fly anglers. Without fishing pressure and no pollution the fish thrive without any human intervention. The fish is hardly in monstrous size, but it is quality fishing.

It is about fishing the most pristine streams we have. Therefore, only catch and release, barbless hooks and massive attention so as not to spoil the fragile environment. The wild trout here have to survive in a harsh environment with scarce food and sub-zero temperature in winter.

The casting must take place from afar, with the angler in sight as little as possible.

If it may seem easy to catch until one goes unnoticed, the trout here are very easy to spook. A pool with rising fish will result dead for hours once they spot the angler. Same happnes if the fly line slaps the surface too hard.

A nice trout took a white winged Humpy.

In regards to the flies, nymph like hare's ear and gold bead heads, dry deer hair flies and parachutes in sizes 10 to 16 is all we need. Presentation and approach to the water are much more important at these altitudes than the accuracy of the imitation.
