Looking back on my personal history of memorable catches, I have to admit that I have a far more memorable record of last casts fish.
It had been an ordinary day on a small stream. A moderate hatch of olive dun and a few small trout caught on dry. Modest-sized fish and we were confiding in the cup de soir. At dusk, the hatch did maintain what it had been promising. We were about to go back to the car, yet I wanted to give a small dark muddler minnow a chance to swim. I cast the imitation a couple of times without too much conviction. Yet, I wanted to do the last cast on the fast current once before night fell and .. bahm! A big trout, an unexpectedly large one compared to the size of the stream!
