The Heuchelbach benthos report

This sample was taken immediately upstream of a drinking water extraction facility located within the forest. See next sampling below in this page for the water quality after the water plant.

The following sampling that follows site documents water quality downstream of the facility. The water extraction plant reportedly removes naturally occurring iron, manganese, and nitrates from the groundwater. However, it appears that these substances are being discharged directly into the stream without any treatment or filtration. As a result, the streambed is coated with an orange deposit extending for several hundred meters downstream. During my survey, I found no evidence of macrobenthic life in this section of the stream. I have reported these observations to the competent authorities right away, and am currently awaiting their response.
