Salmon's priority is to get to the end of a very long trip and they have favourite places where to rest during the run: deep and slow current areas of the stream. Places that may be clearly visible outside the water, but also beneath the water flow. Reading the river is likely the best way to catch fish, and for salmon this will offer the best chance, even more than the correct fly.
