Buzzer larvae dwell on the bottom debris of rivers and ponds. The Bloodworm is blood red due to the high concentration of hemoglobin in its body. The hemoglobin facilitates the metabolism of oxygen in the sediment. I found these specimens in a pristine alpine trout stream at about 600 meter above sea level.
