There are times when, after successfully landing a number of fish, suddenly they all seem to get unhooked. It might be that Gods have turned the back to you. It may be in the climax of catches your fighting skills became impaired. It might be that it just happens, but a check to the hook is always worth it. Here a series of streamers hooks, some brand new, some used and beaten up. Let's peep closer in microscope mode.

The 2/0 heavy wire saltwater looks good, it was used a couple of times and no fish hooked, surely still reliable.

This old hook is more than 25 years old. It was an old SW fly that I fished, not sure where and then I un-tied yesterday since it was looking quite beaten up. Despite the age, it is still ok, and it will be perfect after a quick sharpening.

This extra long pike hook, size 2/0 it was heavily used and underwent several snags. The point is still very sharp since it was manually re-sharpened.

This used SW hook is definitely a no-go. Even if by checking with the finger it might feel ok, it is either to be sharpened or to be tossed directly into the waste bin.

This utilized 4/0 heavy wire was cast a few times and still shows a sharp profile
