I found this incredible (for nowadays) document on youtube. This was 95 years ago. In the middle of Europe on the river Rhine the runs of Salmon were so plentiful that people were fishing them with all the possible methods, hands, harpoons, nets. No wonder this fish was called the bread of the poor. What was all this traded for? The building of dams and the poisoning of the industrial era caused extinction, and not just of the salmon. Audio is only in German, but the pictures are 1000 times more than the words here. Only remarks, there was no one with the fly rod...
