Yesterday we were testimonies of a massive hatch of Grannom caddis on the Middle Rhine River.

We actually came with the intention of fishing Asp with the streamer, but seen none.

The hatch started in the afternoon and it intensified as the hours went by.

There were some fish rising, but I don't think they were eating the Grannom. It reminded me of a similar experience on the Loue, a chalk-stream in France. At that time it was mid of April and in the evening there were literally clouds of Grannom and no fish rising.

The Grannom is called “green-butt“ since the female abdomen is a green lump of eggs
