Groynes are structures made of rocks and earth and built at an angle to the flow. They were constructed about a hundred years ago with the purpose of flood and erosion control, and to provide and maintain enough fairway depth to improve navigation.

They create currents, counter-currents, eddies and an amount of sediments exchange between the main channel and the groyne fields.
Fish tend to gather between groynes, some searching for protection and food, others prowling for preys.

Yesterday the water crystal clear, the weather sunny and cold. Even if no fin was sighted, we enjoyed being by the water and accomplishing our groynes fields opening 2021

yesterday the next fishing attempt at the groynes. It was warm and spring weather. The water temperature was 12 degrees celsius. Migratory birds like graylag goose and gray heron were basking in the sun or hunting.

I started with floating lines, then added a sinking tip to end the day with a fast sinking express shooting head to search the deep whirlpools at the edge of the groynes. A lot of water combed, but no fish sighted.
