Sawyer was for the river keeper in the Salisbury Plain and spent a lot of time observing the nature, the insect and his beloved trout. He spent as well great amount of time fishing and improving the health and stock of the river Avon and the other chalk streams in the area. He developed the pheasant tail nymph to fish in this type of rivers, but the fly has proven successfull in any type of water.
